Temple Emanu El has long been an advocate of the importance of providing our students with Jewish experiences outside the classroom. We have always encouraged summer attendance at overnight Jewish camps and/or trips to Israel to help reinforce your children's Jewish identity and to broaden their Jewish education.
Jewish camping and Israel programs support your family’s commitment to Jewish education and is proven to enhance our students’ Jewish identity and commitment while giving your child all the fun, excitement and recreational opportunities they want in their summer adventures. Temple Emanu El encourages you to choose a Jewish Summer experience for your child and, in many cases, we can help provide financial support. In return, we expect your child to make a commitment to complete his/her studies in our Religious School through High School Graduation.
A number of families in our congregation have made generous provisions for camp and Israel trips. If you require financial assistance-provided you have been a member in good standing for the past three years-you may apply for a scholarship. Forms are due by February 1st each year.
Below are three ways in which we can assist you:
Summers 1 & 2
Through a joint program between Temple Emanu El and the Jewish Education Center of Cleveland (JECC), substantial funds are available for our children’s 1st and 2nd summer experiences at Jewish denominational camps (i.e., GUCI). This assistance is available regardless of financial need. Complete only Part I of the scholarship application to apply.
Summers 3 & Beyond
Through a joint program between Temple Emanu El and the Madav IV Foundation, funds are available for our children’s 3rd summer and beyond at Jewish denomination camps. This assistance is available regardless of financial need. Complete only Part I of the scholarship application to apply.
Need-based
Temple Emanu El provides need-based scholarships for students attending overnight camps, approved Israel trips, and NFTY Conventions. For all need-based scholarships, the following factors will be taken into consideration: (1) financial need; (2) commitment or participation level of student (i.e., religious school attendance, Shabbat service and holiday attendance, youth group activity, etc.); and (3) availability of Temple funds. Part I and II of the scholarship application must be completed. Financial information will be reviewed on a confidential basis.
